The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
