By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning unto humankind 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
