The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
