The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Allah, the Most Gracious 1 has taught the Qur'an, 2 Created man, 3 Taught him the mode of expression. 4 [At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; 5 And the herbs and the trees do prostrate (to Him). 6 And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), 7 so that you [too, O men,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right]: 8 And establish the measures justly, nor decrease the due weight. 9 And the earth He has put for the creatures. 10 Therein are fruit and palm-trees with their dates in sheaths, 11 Grain with husk, and fragrant grasses. 12 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 13 He has created man out of sounding clay, like pottery, 14 And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke: 15 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 16 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 17 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 18 He has let forth the two seas, they meet together, 19 Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress. 20 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -- 21 Pearls and corals come forth from both of them. 22 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 23 And His are the ships going and coming in the seas, like mountains. 24 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 25
