The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
