The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
