Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? 34 Does he have any knowledge of the world beyond the ken of sense-perception, and therefore, clearly sees (the Truth)? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 and about Abraham who fulfilled his duty (to God)? 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 and that a man shall have to his account only as he has laboured, 39 And that his effort will be seen. 40 Then he will be fully repaid for it? 41 That to thy Lord is the final Goal; 42 that it is He who brings laughter and tears; 43 and that He it is Who causes death and grants life, 44 And that He createth the pair, the male and the female. 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 and on Him depends the life hereafter. 47 and that it is He who gives wealth and riches, 48 And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius 49 And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people), 50 And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life. 51 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; 52 And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 About which of the bounties of your Lord can they persistently dispute? 55 THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: 56 The approaching event has come near. 57 There shall be none besides Allah to remove it. 58 Do you then find these tidings strange? 59 Or do you laugh, and do you not weep 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 Rather, prostrate to Allah and worship Him. ۩ 62
