He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
