The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
