Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
