The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
