The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
