He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
