Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
