The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
