The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 save those that pray 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 So those who desire more than this it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
