The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
