The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
