A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
