The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your robes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
