He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
