The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 LET MAN, then, observe out of what he has been created: 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants), 12 this is indeed a Decisive Word, 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 Verily they are plotting a plot. 15 And I plot a plot (against them). 16 Therefore give them some respite – give them some time. 17
