Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and arranged cushions 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
