(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
