(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
