The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a host of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
