The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
