Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
