The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways of good and evil? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
