The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
