The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
