The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
