EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Say thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!" 31 is it their minds that prompt them [to say] this, or are they merely insolent people? 32 Or do they say: "He has fabricated it?" In fact, they will never believe. 33 Let them bring a discourse like thereunto, if they say sooth. 34 Did they come into being without any creator? Or were they their own creators? 35 Created they the heavens and the earth! Aye! they will not be convinced. 36 Or do they have your Lord's treasures in their keeping? Or have absolute authority over them? 37 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! 38 Or, [if you believe in God, how can you believe that] He has [chosen to have] daughters, whereas you yourselves would have [only] sons? 39 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? 40 Do they possess knowledge of the unseen, so that they can write it down? 41 Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers. 42 Or, do they have a god, other than Allah? Exaltations to Allah above that which they associate! 43 And were they to see a portion of the sky falling, they will say, “It is a heap of clouds.” 44 So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs when they shall be struck down, 45 the Day when none of their scheming will be of the least avail to them, and they will receive no succour. 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not. 47 And be patient upon your Lord’s command, (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), for you are indeed in Our sight; and proclaim the Purity of your Lord while praising Him, whenever you stand. 48 and also celebrate His praise at night, and at the retreat of the stars. 49
