Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning to mankind, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 In Gardens they will question 40 Of evil-doers: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
