The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13) ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
