Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
