He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
