The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Burning the skins! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
