The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
