The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
