The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
