Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and arranged cushions 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
