The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
