The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We will now call the guards! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
