Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
Almighty God's Truth.
