Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
