The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
