The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those that pray 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 who guard their privates 29 Are free of blame, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
