The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 when they measure against the people, take full measure 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 And when Our revelations are rehearsed unto him, he saith: fables of the ancients! 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 On couches, gazing, 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
