The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and banana trees, 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
