The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
